In a strong and calibrated response, the Indian Army retaliated against unprovoked small arms firing by the Pakistan Army across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) during the intervening night of May 3 and 4, officials said on Sunday.

The firing targeted several areas in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, including Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor. According to defence officials, Indian forces responded promptly and proportionately, continuing their firm stance against cross-border violations.

This marks the tenth consecutive day of Indian retaliation following the initial ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the night of April 25–26. Earlier, similar firing incidents occurred in Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor on the night of May 2 and 3, which were also effectively countered by Indian troops.

The rising tensions come in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, in which 26 people were killed. In response to the growing hostilities, India has closed its airspace to all aircraft registered in or operated by Pakistan from April 30 to May 23, according to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). This ban includes military, commercial, and leased aircraft.

Additionally, the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries recently engaged in a hotline conversation to address the ceasefire violations. Indian officials reportedly issued a strong warning to Pakistan, urging it to cease its unprovoked aggression along the LoC and the International Border.

The situation remains tense as India continues to maintain heightened vigilance and firm military posture along its western front.
